M. Breann Leake
Bre is a Ph.D. candidate working on the afterlife of Bede. Her dissertation, “Imagining Bede in the Room: The Afterlife of Bede in Early English Literature, c.734-1250” focuses on how authorial identities are created and remediated through translation and adaptation, creating a layered persona for individual writers that speaks to the cultural, political, and ecclesiastical concerns of a given time.
Other interests include the interaction of translation and material culture and, more broadly, the culture of conversion in medieval Europe. She is also working on methods of using digital mediums in the classroom to enhance students’ access to medieval culture, particularly in discussions of medieval book production and language acquisition.
